Designer Paws Salon is Dublin’s first choice for breed-specific dog grooming, professional cat grooming, and competition-level coat work. We don’t operate a salon inside Dublin itself — but for more than a decade, Dublin pet owners have driven the short distance to our award-winning Upper Arlington salon on Fishinger Road or our Westerville salon on Maxtown Road because the work we do isn’t available locally. If your dog has a coat that needs more than a wash-and-clip — or if your cat has been turned away by groomers who don’t have a cat-only room — we built our salons for exactly that.
Dublin has plenty of grooming options, but most are bath-and-tidy services that work fine for low-maintenance coats. What’s harder to find in Dublin is a groomer trained on the breed standards of the dogs Dublin owners actually have: Goldendoodles and Bernedoodles with high-density coats that mat against the skin, Golden Retrievers and Bernese Mountain Dogs that need proper deshedding instead of clipping, terriers and schnauzers that need hand stripping to preserve coat color and texture, and show dogs being prepped for AKC events. Our team has competed and placed in national grooming championships, and we groom every dog to its AKC breed standard.
For Dublin cat owners, our dedicated cat-only grooming room — separate from the dog floor at both locations — is the part most local groomers can’t match. We handle long-haired breeds (Persians, Maine Coons, Ragdolls), matted coats that other groomers refuse, lion cuts, sanitary trims, and senior cats who need a calm, slow-paced groom.
We see Dublin clients from every part of the city. Driving times depend on which salon is closer to you and which route avoids the I-270 corridor at peak hours:
Both salons have on-site parking, easy drop-off, and morning appointment slots designed for Dublin clients who want to drop off on the way to work or school and pick up on the way home.
Designer Paws is a grooming competition salon. Our team has earned national placements in breed-specific, freestyle, and creative grooming events, and our owner is one of a small number of central Ohio groomers regularly invited to judge regional grooming competitions. Competition grooming pushes the technical bar — perfect symmetry, breed-correct silhouettes, finish-quality blow drying — and that’s the standard we apply to every dog in the salon, not just the show dogs.
That technical depth matters most for breeds where the wrong cut becomes a year-long problem. Doodles with shaved-down mats grow back in a different texture. Golden Retrievers clipped instead of deshedded lose their double-coat structure. Schnauzers that have been clipped instead of stripped go soft and lose their pepper-and-salt color. We won’t shortcut your dog’s coat to save time.
How long is the drive from Dublin, really? From Bridge Park to our Upper Arlington salon is 15 minutes most days. From northern Dublin neighborhoods to our Westerville salon is 18–22 minutes. Dublin clients usually pick a salon based on which side of I-270 they live on — south of Glick Road, Upper Arlington wins; north of Glick Road, Westerville is often faster.
Do you work with Dublin show dogs? Yes. We prep dogs for AKC conformation, performance events, and breed specialty shows. Schedule your show prep at least a week before the event so we can hand-strip, finish, and condition appropriately.
My cat has been “fired” by another groomer for being difficult — can you take her? Often yes. Our cat-only room is designed for cats who don’t tolerate the dog-floor environment. We’re slower, quieter, and we work in shorter sessions for cats who need it. If your cat is genuinely aggressive to handling, we’ll tell you upfront whether we can help or whether sedation through your vet is the right call.
Can I drop off early and pick up after work? Yes. Both salons accept drop-offs at opening (9 AM) and most dogs are ready by mid-afternoon. Late pickup through closing (6 PM) is fine for dogs who tolerate kennel time; for anxious dogs we’ll work with you to time the groom around your schedule.
Do you handle severely matted dogs? Yes, but matting changes what we can do. Tight pelting against the skin can’t be brushed out without hurting the dog, so we shave to the mat line and start the coat over. We’ll always show you the matting before we cut so you understand what the finished look will be.
